One bed is a calculation. A garden is a project โ€” several beds, a delivery, a budget and a date to do it again.

โœ“ Tested & verified Updated: How we calculate this

Free to use, Pro to keep

Every tool on this page works straight away, with no account and no limit on how often you use it. Put your numbers in and you get the answer, the same as on the rest of the site.

What Pro adds is memory and reach. It saves a setup to your account so it is there on your phone as well as the machine you built it on. It turns a result into a page you can send to somebody. It emails you when a date you set is coming, instead of leaving that to your own memory. And it takes the ads off โ€” here and on every other site we run, on one subscription.

These tools exist because the ordinary calculators on this site answer a single question, and some questions are not single. A number you need again next month is not a calculation, it is a record.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Pro to use these?

No. Every tool on this page runs in full, free, with no account โ€” exactly like the rest of the site. Pro takes the ads off every site we run and raises what you can keep: 200 saved setups and 50 email alerts instead of 3 of each.

What makes these different from the other calculators here?

One bed is a calculation. A garden is a project: several beds at different depths, a delivery that has to fit the vehicle, and a budget that runs over a season.

Where does what I type go?

It is worked out in your browser and stays there. Nothing reaches us unless you press Save or ask for an email, and then it is only what you handed over โ€” the address you typed and the setup you saved. You can download or delete all of it from your account page at any time.

How we calculate this

Volumes come from the same arithmetic as the single-bed calculators โ€” area ร— depth, converted to cubic yards or cubic metres โ€” and are then added up across beds, rounded to whole bags or loads only at the end. Rounding at the end and not per bed is deliberate: rounding early is how people end up buying a third more than they need.
