๐ŸงฎIs bulk mulch cheaper than bags?

โœ“ Tested & verified Updated: How we calculate this

Bulk looks cheaper per yard until the delivery fee lands on a small order. The break-even is a number, not an opinion.

How this works

Add a row per option: bulk with its delivery fee, bagged with the per-bag price converted to a per-yard figure (a two-cubic-foot bag is 1/13.5 of a yard, so multiply the bag price by 13.5). The row totals are directly comparable because both include getting it to your house.

Bags against bulk

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a bag price to a per-yard price?

A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet, so 13.5 two-cubic-foot bags. Multiply the bag price by 13.5 and enter that as the price per yard, with delivery at zero if you are collecting.

At what volume does bulk win?

With a typical delivery fee, usually somewhere between two and three cubic yards. Below that the fee dominates; above it bulk pulls away quickly.

Is bagged mulch different material?

Often it is drier and more uniformly ground, and it is easier to store. That can be worth a premium for a small job.

How we calculate this

Each row is volume ร— unit price plus a flat delivery charge. No prices are built in: mulch pricing varies by region, material and season, and a stored table would be wrong more often than right.
